CONCERNING SOME THEATRICALS.

Considerable anxiety is expressed by the many friends in Christ-church of Mr Fred Rivcnhall, the well-known vaudeville artist, as to tho safety of hiniselr and his wife. Mr Rivenhiill, who was appearing at the Christchurch Opera House, under the management of Messrs Fuller, some little timo ago, was, with his wife, a passenger to San Francisco by the Sonoma.

Mr Fred Shipman was to have left yesterday for New Zealand by the Sonoma. Mr Shipman, it iwll bo remembered, was hero hs tho manager of Miss Jessie Maclaohlau's Concert Company tour. He went the trip before Miss Maclachlan left for California to arrango for bringing out a company of his own. This project fell th rough* but he entered into a contract with the New Zealand lnteni.ational Exhibition Commissioners to provide a number of automatic inventions, and it was an connection with this that he* was coming to New Zealand.

Mr Harold Ashton, who has been on tour in America to obtain novelties for Mr J. C. Win_m*son was timed to leave San Francisco by the Sonoma, with the Collier dramatic cvompany, who wero under engagement to Mr J. C_Williamst>u for an Australasian tour. When going through San Francisco to the Fast, Mr Ashton stayed at tho Palace Hotel, which is one of the buildings destroyed, and in all probability he would stay there on the ccca",ion of his waiting for the steamer. The disorganised state of the telegraph service to and from San Francisco no doubt accounts for the non-receipt of any cable by Mr R. Stewart, t'iie New Zealand general manager of Mr J. C. Williamson, who is now in Wellington in charge of tho Repertoire Company.
