Terrific storms, accompanied by heavy rain, have been raging on the \vest Coast for the past few days. At Queenstown the whole of the West Queenetown tramline was washed away. Every bridge on the Mount Lyell railway has been either swept away or is badly damaged. One house was completely demolished, and many others are flooded. A number of people became isolated on a bit of rising ground, and had to be drawn through the turbulent waters by meaDs of ropes to a place of safety. The flood, waters have broken into the North Lyell mine, and filled tho main shaft from the eight hundred to the seven hundred feet level.
