WELLINGTON NOTES.
(SPECIAL to "the teess.") * WELLINGTON, May 24! Government officials have made an inspection of the late Mr Charles Bidwill's Tawaha Estate, the purchase of which is under negotiation by the Government. Dr. Bell, the Government Geologist, is now engaged on the Gentle Annie Terrace, near Lake Kanieri. Outcrops of quartz have repeatedly been discovered in the locality, and a local prospector has expended a considerable sum to find tho reef. St. Helen's Hospital—the first of tho experimental State maternity hospitals is expected to be ready to receive patients next week. It is situated in Rintoul street. Miss Wyatt, formerly of Blenheim, has been appointed matron, and Miss Piper has been appointed -sub-matron. Both are State registered nurses and certificated midwives.
