PICNICS.
>— "-. ' I The Christchurch coach-bunders held their annual picnic at Governor's Bay on Saturday in beautiful weather. The party,, numbering about 160, arrived in _yttelton J by the 8.66 *.m. train from* Christchurch, and were taken to the hay in the steamer Purau. • The West Christchurch District High School picnic, which was held at Glentunnel on Friday, proved a moat successful function in every way. The attendance was large, some 740 pupils and adults being carried by the special train, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The pupils competed in a num-1 ber of races arranged for them, and the programme included two long-dis-tance events of 600 yards and 1200 yards for boys. Mr C. D. Morris, chairman of the school committee, Mr T". B. Foster, 4 former headmaster of the school, and Mr C. Hardie, the present headmaster, and other members, of the staff attended the picnic { On Saturday morning a'large party, consisting of the members of the East Christchuroh Girls* Swimming Club and their teachers and friends, held a most enjoyable picnic at Corsair Bay, swimming raoes and bathing being indulged in.
