The Department of Industries und Coinrotrce has received tho following cablegram from the .Agcnt-Ginera!, dated Louden, October 15th: — Tbo mutton market is quiet, but tbe.'e i.i general confidence in tho maintenance of present prices. To ecme extent the market is affected by t'ho expectation of light arrivals. The overage price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4jjd f'>r 'light weights, 4Jd' for heavy weights; Dunedin, Southland, and W.M.E. Co.'s mutton, 4id (nominal). Other brands of n North Island mutton 4Jd; River Plate mutton, 3|d. The lamb market is dull, and deliveries are now diminishing very rapidly. It ie "reported that some large*-salee have been etfeoUjl for shipments of next season's lamb. Tho average pric 1 to-day for N«w Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, ie 5Jd; brands other than Canterbury, 5Jd. The beef market; is overstocked and depressed.. The averago price to-day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is 31d, forecruarters The butter market is dull. The average price for choicest Xew Zealand butter (etored) to-day is 965, Danish llos, Australian (new) 108s. The cheese market is steady. The average price for finest New Zealand cheese ie 435. The hemp market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker. . The cocksfoot need market is dull, buyers not being keen to do business at present. ' The average price to-day for bright, dean Sew Zealand cocksfoot eeed, weighing 171b, is 51a per cwt.
