Colonel Bauehop inspected the .North Canterbury Mounted Rifles at. their camp at the Ba'ngiora- Show. Grounds yesterday. The corps paraded. 47 strong, under Acting Captain Urn. Tho general saluto and inspection of men, aJid horses wero followed by a march past, and the corps was then taken for outpost work iv the Ashley river, where Colonel Bauchop visited the wet ions «nd asked questions of the troopers to Uab their knowledge, of drill. After dinner Ihe corps was .further inspected, and tho Colonel expressed himself as very well pleased with their appearance. He stated that he understood tho company had been in existence live years, and he was pleased to learn that mc*>t of the original members were still connected with it. He was glad to see some of the men wearing South African medal*. To-day the company will do its volley and field firing at the Hangior.t range. Major R. A. Chaffey, commanding No. 2 Battalion, arrived at the camp last evening, having been.prevented by iha Hoods in the rivers from getting there sooner. Arrangements have been completed for a field battery tournament in this city on Boxing Day. Up to th; present five batteries have intimated their intention of sending detachments, the batteries b.-ing B Battery, Punedin : D Battery, Wellington : E lUttory, Christchuuh ; H Battery, Nelson ; and I Buttery, Wesijwt. It ]*, hoped that the only fii-jd battery in tho oclony which has not rot signifi-'d its intention of being reprt-st'iit«l will be able to do so, and thus complete the regiuu-nt.
