The annual meeting of the shareholders of the South British Insurance Company was held to-day, when the , report and bnlance-rlieet (.1 summary of which has already been telegraphed) was adopted. A motion proposed by the Chairman (Mr Upton), approving of the proposal to set up a provident fond for the staff, was atpvwl to, the staff to contribute- not more than 5 per cent, on their salaries, and the company to subsidise £ for £. Tho retirine directors were re-elected. The scheme (previouslr telegraphed) for tho allotment of unissued shares among shareholders, on the basis. of one for every two already held, was approved after a short discussion.
