WOOLSTON.

About fifty persons attended the annual meeting of "householders at the Woolston School. Mr J. Cleworth was voted to the chair. The annual report stated that the Education Board had carried out several ■ijph-needed improvements. The incoming committee was urged to bring before the Board again the necessity of establishing a district high school for Woolston. Certain members of .the cadet corps had canvassed the district, and collected more than £12 towards the uniform fund. Tlie examiner's report stated the result of the year's work reflected very great credit on the headmaster and his staff. Tlie prescribed curriculum, generously interpreted, had been intelligently and faithfully followed, with most valuable educational results. On the motion of the Cliairman, seconded by Mr Fisher, a resolution was unanimously adopted, asking tlie Government to introduce, without delay, legislation providing for the establishment of a fund for the superannuation of aged and infirm teachers. The Chairman stated that despite the Government's allowance of 9d per head extra capitation (amounting in the case of Woolston to £16 4s), in addition to the incidental fund, for wliich they were very grateful, the Committee were not yet in "a position to pay their debts. After paying all accounts, they would be £1 or £2 to the bad. Mr M. Robinson stated that the Committee had to economise most carefully in order to carry on with the funds at its disposal. A resolution Mas adopted thanking the Government for their extra grant, and requesting that it should be paid annually in future. The meeting also strongly expressed the opinion that the money for incidental expenditure should be remitted by the Board monthly, instead of quarterly. It was decided to establish a penny savings bank in connection with the school. The following Committee was elected for the-ensuing year:—Rev. W. J. Gow, Messrs J. Cleworth (chairman), M. Robertson, X. J. Ravin, W. T. Thomas, H. J. Owen, W. Cordery, and R. Douglas, and Rev. A. C. Hoggins.
