OPAWA.
About seventy-five householders attended the annual meeting of the Opawa School. Mr E. G. Wood presided. The annual report stated tliat tlie average attendance for the year was 267, as against 261.5 for the preceding year. Tlie total number on the roll was 311. During the year £19 9s 7d was deposited in the Savings Bank, and the amount now standing to the credit of 75 depositors was £263 9s Bd. The total receipts were £845 2s 4d, and the expenditure £822 6s Bd, leaving a credit balance of £22 15s Bd. A large number of ,the children had. attended a Bible Class, held in the school by the Rev. P. 4/Cocks, out of school hours. Tlie examiner's report was very satisfactory. The following new Committee was elected:—Rev. P. J. Cocks (chairman), Messrs H. Baunton, W. Broadhurst, E. Garland, C. Lucas, J. T. McHarg (secretary), A. R. Pavitt, J. T. Trerise, and W. Woodhouse. A motion was passed recording the high appreciation of the householders of the excellent work done by the retiring chairman, Mr E. G. Wood, during a connection of many years with the school. A resolution was also adopted urging the Board of Education to establish Seventh Standards in central schools, with the object of obtaining sufficient children in that standard to employ a separate teacher.
