ALLEGED NEGLECT OF DUTY.

(~80- A COBRESFONDENT.) PETONE, April 22. The Petone '"Chronicle" says that considerable surprise was experienced when it was known that the Lower Hutt Borough Council decided, last night, to dismiss, the clerk of works on the ground of neglect* of duty. Tfc is alleged. that he allowed the contractor to lay the drains without cementing the connections, and without, putting m fifty junction pipes, provided in specifications. The Council ordered the contractor to open up two miles of trenches to enable all the pipes to be examined. The matter was discovered by Cr. Waugh, who insisted on the whole Council visiting > the contract, and having the positions opened up to test his complaint.
