ROAD. BOARDS.

HEATHOOTE. The Heathcole Road Board met on April Bth. Present—Messrs G. Scott (chairman), Martin, Williamson and Corson. Ihe District Health Officer wrote, forwarding a report on the Tennyson street drain, also stating that a copy of the report had been sent to ...ie City Council, us the drain was within the city boundaries. The City Council forwarded an account for £69 15s sd, share of expenses in connection with the establishment and maintenance of the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Bottle Lake to November. 1203. The Hospital Board wrote, stating that £119 19s 6d would be required from this district as its share of expenses for tiie Bottle Lake Hospital. It was decided that, inquiries be made as to ho'— the amount is made up. Tue annual meeting of the Board will be held at noon on May 6th. A petition was received from ratepayers, asking that Cowlishaw street be formed, the petitioners agreeing to pay the cost uro —ita- to length of frontage." The Kowai Road Board met on the 7th in.«t. The receipts for the month amounted to £156 0s Id, and accounts amounting to £545 10s Id were passed for payment. Messrs B. Lopp and J. Wyllie waited upon the Board. Mr Lopp, on. behalf of Mrs Geo. Gorrie, complained of water beine diverted from its natural channel and finding its way on to her property in flood time. The Board will notify the owner to regulate the quantity of water taken from the creek for stock purposes. Mr Wyllie if any steps had been taken regarding the recent fire in the Ashley river-bed protection reserve, which had seriously affected the plantations. The Board stated that the matter had been placed in the hands of the police, and it was intended to offer a reward of £i> for information that would lead to a conviction. The Chairman reported the result of his interview with the Premier relative to a vote for the formation of the Lower

Ashley-bridge. It -was decided to forward, as suggested by Mr Seddon, a full statement of the district's financial position. The surveyor was instructed to inform Mr Ashworth that the approaches to the new bridge over Saltwater Creek were not sufficient; arid to request that th© work be done to the satisfaction of the surveyor. Mr Hugh Gorrie's tender for contract No. 256 was accepted, and it was resolved to invite tender* for cleaning HadlerV drain, and. for the hire of traction engine for the rdad grader. The election of members was fixed for 7th May, and the annual meeting of ratepayers for sth May; The extension of King's Beach road was deferred for the present. The clerk was directed to ascertain farther >particular.* - from Hie Cliristchurch City Council, relative to the account received re Bottle Lake .Hospital.
