FIRST BISHOP OF NELSON. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, April 22. The death is announced of Bishop Hobhouse, formerly of Nelson, aged 87 years. [The Right Rev. Edmund Hobhouse, D.D., first Bishop of Nelson, was born in 1817, and educated at Eton and Balliol. He received his appointment to the Nelson Bishopric in 1858, bub in 1865 was obliged to resign his see on account of illness, and, returning to England, was made assistant to the Bishop of Lichfield in 1869. Illhealth again made his retirement necessary in 1881, and he took up his residence in Wells.] AN EMINENT ACTOR-MANAGER. LONDON, April 22 Mr John Coleman, the actor-manager, is dead, at the age of 71 years. [Mr John Coleman, of Drury Lane Theatre, was a native of- the Midlands, and when Macready was managing Drury Lane he was stage-struck, and writing to the- great actor, secured an interview. MacreadjQjeard him recite, patted his head, and told him to be a good boy and go back to school. Taking the wrong train he found himself without money at Rugby, and slept under a haystack during a snowstorm, and was rewarded, with a thrashing when he got home. However, this did not discourage him, and he had a long and varied career as an entrepreneur. At one time-or other he was manager of a large number—rumour says half—of the theatres in England. He produced for the first time on any stage "It's Never Too Late to Mend," "Foul Play," "Put Yourself in His Place," etc. He built the beautiful. Theatre Royal at Leeds, which was destroyed by fire. In 1896 he became lessee of Drury Lanet Theatre on the death of Sir Augustus Harris.]
