m Sir Joseph Ward, Lady Ward, and Mr B. Wilson (private secretary), left for Wellington by Saturday night's steamer. Sir Joseph was suffering from a rather severe cold. Newburgh, who for some years has been employed in the office of Messrs Bowron Bros., was on Friday the recipient of a presentation from his fellow employees prior to his leaving the service of the firm to take up another position. Mr J. C. Wilkin, manager of the "Lyttelton Times" Company, returned from Auckland by the Waikare on Saturday. Bishop Grimes, Rev. Gray, and Mr Justice Cooper arrived from Wellington by the Rotoinnhana on Saturday morning. Archdeacon Beaumont and Mrs Beaumont returned from Hanmer on Saturday. Mr Vance (Sydney), Miss Leadham, Mrs Jones, Mr De Lautour (Gisborne), Mrs H. E. Williams, Mrs Williams, Mr and Mrs Stothert (Bath, England), Mr J. Mcßae Peacock, Mr Kingdon, Mr Halley, Mr I-eugham, Mr T. Hay, Mr Fairbairn, Mr Brewer, Mr Shoultz, Mr'O, Cheng, Mr Hy. E. Beveridge, and Mr and Mrs Heppell are in town. Mr and Mrs G. P. Donnelly, whp are going to England, accompanied by their daughter. Mrs Perry, were farewelled by a large Maori gathering at Havelock North on Saturday. They were presented with an address and native curios. Mr D. McCaskill, of Winchester, was met in Timaru on Saturday by commercial men and presented with a gold chain and pendant, prior to his departure on a trip to England. Mr R. M. Sheldon, Greymouth, son of the Rev. John Sheldon, late vicar of Governor's Bay, a resident of this city, passed the dental examination recently held in Dunedin. Captain Scott and Mr Skelton, of the Discovery, left for the north by the Rotomahana on Saturday night. Captain Willis and Mr E. Honey were passengers for Wellington by the Roto- | mahana on Saturday night. Messrs W. H. P. Woodroffe and P. Herman returned from, Wellington by 'the Te Anan yesterday. Miss E.'Lumsden and Mrs R. Marshall, of Inveronrgill, arrived Sy the express on Saturday night. | A social was tendered to Miss Osborne at the Baptififc: Church, Lincoln, on Friday, in honour of her approaching marriage. The Christian Endeavour Society of the church, through the Pastor (Rev. G. D. Cox), presented Miss Osborne with a piece of plate.
