TIMARU.
The Timaru grain markets have gone back during the week, the best prfce now obtainable for prime samples of wheat being 2s 9Jd. The market is practically lifeless, and millers and speculators are only operating to till actual present requirements. Quotations for wheat are:—Velvet 2e 9id, Red Chaff 2s 7*d to 2s Bd, Tuscan 2s 9d; at these prices samples must be prime, and the wheat has to be delivered in Timaru. A lack of animation also characterises the oats market, and it is with difficulty that sales are effected. Values run from 1b 4d to Is 6d for Garton's, and from Is 3d to Is 6d, f.o-b., for Duns and Danish, according to quality. There is a little enquiry for barley, but no reliable quotation can be given. Potatoes are worth from £1 10s to £1 15s per ton, delivered in Timaru. Flour is selling at £9, bran at £2 10s, pollard at £4 10s, and oatmeal at £10, per ton in each case.
