CORRESPONDENCE.

—«. VOLUNTEER OFFICERS , TITLES). tO THE KDITOB OF THE FltfcSS. Sir, —Perhaps the following may b? of j some value to your correspondent, 'Imperial Claims": — First —Those officers who saw service in ; South Africa are entitled to bear the prefix upon ail occasions, whether in their military or civil capacities. I Second—Those officers whose names have ; been plated upon the militia lust are also entitled to bear their title. Third—The volunteer officer should only be addressed by hie title when in uniform, j or when referred to officially upon any ! subject of a military nature.—Yours, etc., INFORMER. TO THE EDITOR OF THB PBES3. Sir,—Your correspondent, "Imperial Claims," does not make his complaint very clear. Does he complain of volunteer officers using their volunteer titles themselves ; or of other persons addressing them by their volunteer titles in private life? X have never heard, in a somewhat long experience- of the colony, of volunteer officer* transgressing in, this direction; on the contrary, I have always found them give up a large amount of their leisure for their King and country, with very great cheerfulness and eelf-effacement. If your correspondent means that other people address volunteer officers by their volunteer titles in private life, surely the volunteer officer, with his multifarious dutie*, cannot be expected to teach his •well-wishers manners; while, Cb try to teach, hie detractors good breeding, even though they may perchance have "Imperial Claims," would be co Herculean a, task that he will be readily pardoned if he does not try.—Yours, etc., PRO PATRIA.
