THE VOLUNTEERS.
Since the Canterbury Mounted Rifles (under Captain Macartney) and the Ellesinero Mounted Rifles (under Captain Dixon) went into camp at Motukarara on Monday the time Ims been spent in practical work. On Wednesday Colonel Porter inspected the two corps. The inspection consisted of various movements, chiefly a screen to front, flanks, and rear, and they wore smartly performed, and showed mnch intelligence on the part of the non-commissioned officers and ineu. Colonel Porter said he was pleased that the two corps had gone into camp together, as the friendly rivalry between them was an excellent thing. At the conoluidon of the inspection, Captain Dixon, commanding the Ellesmere Mounted Rifles, went through his practical examination with great credit.
