SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.

Th* Selwyn County Council met yeeter* day. Present—Messrs Dunlop (diaimaii , Witty.- Rhodes, ™cHaffie, Googh, McMillan, end Wolfe. It to decided, on Mr Bealey'e motion, 'That the resolution passed by the Council removing the care of die wtter-racea in The Rukaia Road Board district, and handing them over to tie engineer, be rescinded." ■ ''~'. The Auditor-General wrote Triih reference to the half-yearly accounts which he had certified.to, with, the exception of the payment on account of the Belfast cemetery. The Chairman explained that the Auditor was taking exception to the expenditure of money on a. section of land which had been veeted in the Crown. It was decided to co-operate with the Stratford County Council in opposing the proposal before Parliament to extend the oaanty franchise, «nd to send a letter to the Premier enclosing the resolution of the Council. The Waitaki and Levels County Councils and the Rakaia and Eas* Malvern Road Boards wrote protesting against the action of the Railway Department- in deducting the cost of the maintenance of combined road and railway bridges, so far as providing for road traffic, from the subf idy payable to tho road boards interested. The Rakada Road Board pointed out that it was to be mulcted in the sum of £400 for tbjs maintenance of the Rakaia railway bridge, which it was contended was a portion of the main south road, and wae only a convenience to a few of the Betitlene of the district. The correspondence on the same subject between the East MsJvern Road Board and the Railway Department was read. • •■

The Chairman wae authorised to . join with the other County Councils in. protesting against the dharge made re the maintenance of the Itukaia bridge. In reply to representations front the Avon Road Board, it was resolved thatyoung turds' heads be purchased at a price not exceeding 3d per dozen, and egge at 2d per dozen. •

It was also resolved that a letter be sent to the City Council pointing out that tliere were other methods of destroying the birds besides poisoning, and urging tie purchase of eggs, etc. Messrs AtcHaffie, H. P. Murray4ynsley, and Ooug'h were elected to represent .the Council on the n«wly-conetibuted; Domain Board, making four with the chairman ex officio.

It wa» resolved to concur in proposals made by Mr Dobson with reference to alterations in the Ellesmere culvert.

It was resolved—"Thai the Chair' won be empowered to give Mr Zouch the assistance of tie solicitor, aad also pay the'witnesses' expenses in cases where Lβ thinks it desirable."
