In the gaming cases, the Judge told the Grand Jury that there was. prima facie evidence thab'the business of betting was carried on by tne accused. • The fact that other business was carried on by them was immaterial. The Surreal- Court Criminal Sessions opened to-day, before Mr Justice' Cooper, who reaHai-ke- on the lengthy calendar, and said that in all cases there was.a prima facie case-Hmde and they should all go befoi-Hhe tomtom Jury.. Williaih Loft and Fn&hk Coyle were indicted for robbery with violence at Poxton. Coyla was' acquitted ; Loft "wos convicted nnd sentenced to" five years"; imprisonment. Bobert Ojrilvie- won convicted of an nnnatural offence et Feilding, and remanded for sentence till to-morrow. Frank King, aged al»ut 22, ■; who had pleaded guilty in the lower Court to) tliirteen burglaries in Wellington, admitted another similar charge, and was remanded for sentence. AUCKLAND, November 23.
At the Supreme Court to-day, Mr Justice Edwards sentenced Edward Roan to three years' imprisonment for indecent assault on his daughter, aged ten.
