ANGLING NOTES.

Yesterday morning the Rangitata river was reported to be fishable. A telegram received from Glenavy stated that the Waitaki was in good order for fishing. At the Lower Selwyn, near the mouth, a number of anglers were fishing from Saturday till Monday, but few good baskets were secured. Mr Moffett landed seven nice troat. two of which turned the scale at over 61b each. Several other anglers did fairly well. Mr A. Swanston and Mr L. Hart secured several good fish on the Selwyn on Saturday evening. The Selwyn river trout are now in splendid condition. A few fishermen were whipping the Waimakariri at last week end, but as the stream was not at all clear, very few fish were taken. Mr J. Treleaven secured a nice basket of trout from the Ashley on Saturday last. During the hut few days anglers in South Canterbury have had only fair sport, though the rivers are in good fishing order. Trout are plentiful enough, but their size is unsatisfactory.
