PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON.

(FROM OCR OWN’ CORRESPONDENT.) LONDON, September 18. Air and Airs H. A. Knight (Christchurch) have been in town for the last week or two. They will return to Cheltenham in the course of a >■* days. Air Nicoll, of tho firm of Atessrs Nicoll Brothers, well-known Smithfield meat salesmen, is about to undertake a trip to New Zealand. Air Gundtv, jun., of Christchurch, who has been in Cardiff for some months past perfecting a new automatic machine for weighing frozen meat, intends to leave before long on his return to the colony. The opinion is expressed that tho machine is likely to give great satisfaction. Air Joshua Jor.es, of Alokatt fame, purposes returning shortly to New Zealand. Air Leonard D. S. Dalo (Christchurch) arrived iu England by the Ruapehu on her last trip, mainly on pleasure bent, but atthe same time lie will transact a little business. 1 hear that Alajor Nelson George has sold the pretty place in the country, which lie purchased some little time ago with the view to permanent residence. I understand that- -both he and Airs George have been entirely disgusted by the inclemency of the present so-called summer, and pine for a sunnier and more genial dime. But I do not. know whether they have decided as yet to return to New Zealand, or whether they will seek one of the popular winter resorts on the Continent. .September 26. Air F. A. Anson (Christchurch) accompanied by Mrs Anson and two daughters, sails from England to-day by the Oroides on their return to New Zealand. They are leaving a son and daughter in this country to complete tlieir education. They will reside with their uncle, (Sir William Anson, who is a- member of the present Government. Air Anson tells me that he expects to remain in the colony for a considerable period, and he has not yet definitely decided when he will re-visit the Mother Country. He is taking out with him a motor ’car of one of the latest and most improved designs, to be used in travelling between his country residence and Christchurch.

Air Whitelaw, late of Auckland and Christchurch, reached London last week, and has already entered upon his duties iu connection with the New Zealand newspapers which he will assist to represent in ijondoti.

Air Alfred -Saunders was to have been present at the meeting held this week at the Agency-General in connection with the civet ion of a statue to the memory of the lute Air ltolleston; but as lie was away from London lie was unable to be present. Four sculptors have -been asked for terms, and the colonial promoters of the statue are to be asked to give the Committee further particulars. It- is announced that tho marriago arranged between the Hon. Rupert Guinness and Lady Gwendolen Onslow, elder daughter of Lord and Lady Onslow, will take place in London on Thursday week, October Bth.
