THE ADEN HINTERLAND
BRITISH FORCE DISPATCHED. United Press Association—Ey Eleotrio Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, October 27. A British force of 600 men leaves Aden on November 4th to operate in the Hinterland in connection with tho Boundary Commission. At the end of June Lord George Hamilton, replying lo a question in tiie House of Commons, said the proceedings of tlio Boundary Commission, delimiting tlio frontier between the territories of the tribes under British protection in the Aden Hinterland and tlie territory of the Ottoman Empire, had not- been as rapid a.s could bo wished. Tiie Commission had to deal with exceptional difficulties. The Government have repeatedly been compelled to protest against the obstruction offered to the Commission. Lord George Hamilton said that as long as the Commissioners were at work it would be necessary to have some troops by them ns a precaution. The proceedings of tho Commissioners are primarily under < tiie control of tho Indian Government. The delimitation was rendered necessary owing to Turkish attempts to enforce her hit-iierto non-existent- rule over the tribes in the Aden Hinterland. The Commission was appointed after some sharp skirmishes had taken place between British and Turkish troops in 1901. I’art-s of the frontier are not- in dispute; others are. Great Britain has constantly met with scant grace from Turkey since, and tho cablegram shown that the danger of petty conflict has still to be provided against.
