CITY WATER SUPPLY.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE I’BESS. Sir, —In recent correspondence in your columns I took occasion to point out that tlie four experts who bad been consulted by tne city, viz., Messrs G. P. Williams, Walkden, Dobson, and Cyrus Williams, were unanimous in favour of the artesian supply. As I understand this statement has been questioned, I desire, with your permission, to repeat the statement I made in my previous letter. Air G. P. Williams’s letter read at the City Council meeting on September 21st is perfectly explicit on this point, and was fresh in my mind when I Wrote. He says: —“I notice that the present City Surveyor and Mr Cyras Williams have adopted the main features .'of the scheme prepared in 1896 by Air Walkden and myself. These are (1) Utilising the Port Hills for reservoir purposes; (2) pumping from artesian sources near the south end of Colombo street; (3) the same estimated consumption per bead.” In Messrs Walkden and Williams’s original report the only reference to Heathcute is contained in a short paragraph .pointing out that in case of need this river might be drawn upon for an additional supply. At the site proposed by our present engineers this river would be equally available. —Yours, etc., I think I have a right to demand that the public shall not be misled on this important question. lIENRY F. WIGRAAI.
