Mr F. Waymoutli and G. Jameson went South by the express yesterday morning Mr J. Clarke, Government guide, Mount Cook, went South by the express yesterday morning to prepare for the opening of the tourist season on November 18th. Mr Schaefer, Mrs Carr, Mrs Pearson (Wanganui), and Mr C. H. Borlas© (Wanganui), arrived in town yesterday. Hon. Henry F. Wigrani, .Mr F. de C. 'Mulct, Mr H. C. Cameron, Mr J. Coom, Mr W. Morton, Mrs Coker, and Mr G. A. Troop leilt for the North, by last night’s steamer. Mr G. Border, Dunedin, arrived in town last night. Mr and Mrs Lyons are on a visit to Christchurch. Mr, Mrs and Jiiss Perceval arrived from the North yesterday. Mrs Haywood, of Wellington, is at present visiting this city. His Worship the Mayor returned to Wellington last night. 1 Mr and Mrs Pat. Campbell returned last evening from Hannier Springs.
Mr uiul Mrs G. Newton arrived in town by the Culverden train. Air W. H. Renner, who has been postmaster at Ashburton for the last six years, lias received intimation of his promotion to be chief postmaster at Gisborne. Mr Joseph Smitheram, who has been employed for the past twelve years by Messrs W. H. Collins and Co., Ashburton, was on Saturday evening presented with a large parlour hanging lamp by the firm and employees on the occasion of bis marriage. Recent visitors to Hanmer are: -*-Mr and Mrs P. Campbell, Miss Campbell (Ilam), Mrs Finch, Air and Airs Edgar Jones (Albury), Air and the Aliases Moir (2), Mr and Airs G. Coleman, Air and Mrs Vaughan, and Air P. T. Baker (Amberley), Airs C. Bean, Air and ‘Alias Alorshead (Wellington), Mr J. Ross, Mr Vincent, Air and Airs A. Baxter. Air and Airs C. VV. Sharman, and the Alisses Shaman (2) (East Oxford), Air Sellars, Mr Milne, Air Pairman, Air- J. Higgs (Lyttelton), Air McLean (Eiccarton), Mrs Russell (Sydenham), Air Hodge (Southland), Mrs Sliuker (Addington), Air J. Purnell (Lauriston). Air Thomas Parke, of Alilford, Temuka, died in Dunedin, at the age of 70 years. Air Parke was one of the first, settlers of Alilford. He came to the colony over forty years ago, and remained for a while in Christchurch, afterwards going to Winchester. The Rev. Alark Sutton, late assistant Anglican curate at Simonstown, Cape Colony, is coming to New Zealand.
