CRICKET.
At Wee dons on Saturday, Kirwee beat Weedons and Rolleston United by an innings and 22 runs. The scores were: Weedons and Rolleston United, 63 and 53 (T. Davidson 15, and J. CTosson 11); Kirwee, 137 (W. Wright 49, A. Stewart 14. R. Wright 14, 11. Marsh 13, M. Vaughan 12, and C. Dixon 11). For the home team, F. Davidson, J. Curraugh and J. Harvey bowled best, and for the visitors A. and W. Wright, and H. Nurse. In the*Thursday competition, the Mercantile Club beat, the Union Club by 85 runs on the first innings. Mercantile made 173, and 222 for nine wickets (Rowe 90, Clarke 33, Mathias 21, Petrie 19, Pegg 15, and extras 22). Five men were run out in Mercantile’s second innings. Union scored 88 (O’Malley 16 not out, Edser 12, Aioson 12, Hosldng 10, Toole 10). Hebden was the most successful bowler for Union, while Rowe, Petrie and Pegg bowled best for Mercantile. The United Cricket Club's Vice-Presi-dent’s Cup team met St. Mary’s team on Saturday. United, in their first innings, scored 227 (Kvoresk 112, Aitken 23, Nalder 23, Jameson 22, and Douglas 14). St. Mary’s replied with 33 (McNamara Williams and Greenwood bowled successfully for United. Mr A. Wilding, formerly a member of the Lancaster Park First Eleven, playing for "Trinity College (Cambridge) First Eleven throughout the College term, had a hatting average of 35, whilst, lie took 28 wickets at a cost of 9 runs a piece. Leaving Cambridge at the end of the term in June lie did not play again until August, but lie then represented Herefordshire against the following teams —Lord Coventry’s XL, Mr Foster’s XI., and return I. Zingari. Shropshire, and M.C.C. and Ground. His averages for Herefordshire were, batting 20 and bowling 10 wickets for 250 runs. A Herefordshire paper thus refers to his first appearance:—“F. A. Wilding made quite a sensational first appearance for Herefordshire, getting a century against Lord Coventry's XL It was an invaluable effort, and embraced many a fine drive, with some nice leg hitting. Unfortunately Wilding did not repeat this performance during the rest of his stay in Herefordshire, but' lie can rest, contented, for he scored the only century compiled by a member of the home county throughout, the season.”
