ALBION v MERIVALE.
This match, was played on the west ground at liOJicaster Park, and a rather uninteresting game resulted in a win for Albion by 3 points. Albion (block) won the toss, and Merivale (blue and White) kicked off against Ithe wind. Albion at once commenced to attack, and a smart run by Turner along the touch-line hod Merivale defending. Weston marked in a good position, but TurtßlTs kick at goal fell short, and Merivale were forced. Tho kick-out failed to bring relitif, and after Bomo scrambling on the Merivale hue, McKenzie got across and (scored for Albion. Turtill failed with tine kick at goal. Albion continued to hold the upper- hand, and Wood failing to take the kill cleanly from a free kick by Weiiton, the Blacks, by fast following up, curried) the leather over their opponents' line, and Weston touched down. Turtill again failed with the kick at goal. After the kick-out the Merivale forwards livened up and smothered Turtill's return. Cooke and Berry dribbled the ball over tlie Blacks' line, and O'Malley dashed up and scored a try. Cooke made a poor attempt at goal. A period of iudecisive play followed until Ollivier ■headed a rush of the Blue forwards, with the result that P. Menzies, after a strong run, stored, and equalised the points. Wood's attempt at goal was unsuccessful, and hulf-time was called with the score 6 all. Merivale had rather the better of the play al the opening ot the second spell, but they were soon driven back, and a passing rush between Weston, Arehbold, and Wise enabled the last-named to score an easy try, which Turtill failed to convert. The remainder of the play was generally in favour of Albion, and when time was oaKed tho score stood—Albion 9 points (three tries), Merivale 6 points (two tries). During the second spell the referee, Mr H. C. Harrison, ordered T. Martin, one of the Merivale forwards, off the field for striking an opponent.
