Another condition to be reckoned with h the Oamaru Freezing Company that has been buying largely this season on the north side of the Waitaki. No doubt this company will be a keen competitor in the future, which clearly demonstrates that new works are not required. It must not be considered that I am making these remarks in the interests of the Christchurch Meat Company. I do so with the desire to point out the grave risk that the Belfast Company will incur if the shareholders endorse the action of their directors. Considerable correspondence has already appeared in. the "Timaru Herald" condemning the proposal, and which bears out what I have written.—Yours, etc., BANKER. TO THE EDITOR OF THE FB.ES3. Sir, —From the advert bvment in Saturday's paper a fight between the two Canterbury Freezing Companies has started. Of course the farmers and freezers are elated at the reductions, but iwhut about the poor shareholder, where is he to get his dividend from? I think the best thing we can do is to sell our shares, that is provided we can get anyone to buy them. What a farce the Belfast Company calling their shareholders together for the 13th inst., to get them to sanction raising the capital another £50,000, with a view of erecting works in South Canterbury, in opposition to the Christchurch Meat Company, who now, I am given to understand, are not killing anything up to their capacity. Before the meeting all the directors, with their engineer and architect, liave visited, wlected and bought a site, why call the shareholders together to sanction what is already done? Shares in both Companies must fall together if the new works are built.—Yours, etc., SHAREHOLDER IN BOTH COMPANIES.
