Tho Lytwlton Borough Council me.t la.-L night. Present—Crs. Brown, Webb, Kay, deary, Whitby, and Radcliffp. In tho. nbseucv of the Mayor, C'r. Wr'bb was voted to the. chair. An application from t-h« Lytteltr.n Homing Society for the uee cf a room at th» Colnnii?ts' Hall was granted. A letter from IMessrs Coote ar.d Hatton, complaining of rain water flooding their properties, was referred to tho Works Coniaiitteo to report. It was decided to renew 'the lease c>f the. railway siding on ths cams terms as heretofore.
The Finance Committees repotted receipt* £341 Ss sd, and recommended for payment accounts .-.mounting to £110 9a 6d on general account, ami £2 19s 4<l on the. gasworks loan account. The accounts row ?tand as follows:—General dr. £147 11s lid. drainage loan cr. £1544 4s Ad, gasworks loan cr. £1339 lid 7<5, waterworks loan cr. 16s 2d. The n-port was adopted. The Town Clerk submitted -a report on the yearly accounts to March 31st, 1903, and it. waa approved.
The report whowvd that tho Council's expenditure for the year had totalled £30,311, made up as follows?:— £10,199 on general account, £2043 on waterworks extension loan account, £1437 on drainage loan account, £2993 10s 9d on abattoir loan account. ;;nd £13,636 on gaework-? loan isocount. The total receipts amounted to £27.803. The gas supply account already showed a profit, of £50. The total cost, to the Council of acquiring the works, outside the actual purchase-money, was £83. The- public debt of the borough is £37.782, and the .ifsets amount to £93,260. The abattoir had proved a great micccps, with out being a> burden on the funds of the town. The Chairman expressed his satisfaction with the *>tat«neut of tho Town Clerk, .and moved—"That the report be received, and filed wir.h the cilhr.r iv[>ort.s of the Council. - ' Tho motion was agreed to. Tho report of the Foreman of Works was adopted. Tho Mayor here took the chair. The report of the engineer at the pumping station showed that during the past irwEt'h the quantity of -water pumped into the main reservoir had been 41,643,000 gallows, being 2,500,000 gallons lose than during the corresponding .period last yeir. A formal resolution striking a, rate'ol Is 3d in the £ was agreed to. A resolution expressing the* Council's high appreciation of tho services of the Town Clerk was carried unanimously, a.s ,iko thanking tho Inspector, the Clerk of t<ho Work*, the Kngineer at tho Pumping Station, and fr'io other official.*. HLi Worship thunked the Council for tho cordial support given him durinrr his te.nii of office.
