An. amusing incident of the Boer war is related in tho " United Service Gazette." dust after the fall of Bloemfontein, soldiers were called upon, owing to the scarcity of civilians, to work the railway lie weary men were lying in camp one eight, after a hard day's work, when a ec-r----geant called out, "Any of you wish to put Jeur .names down us railway porters, drivers, stokers, guards, or for any otltvr •ppo'ntment connected with the railway 1" 'fte silence was broken only by snores. Then one of the men s»lovI-,- raised his kcad, and shouted, " Put mo down *» a..sleeper"
