MIDLAND v SYDENHAM.

This match was brought to a conclusion at Hagley Park, and it ended in a draw. On the Saturday the Midlacders

had occupied the -wfckete the -wbole afternoon, ©coring 357 for the ..loss of four wickete, and it was generally thought that they would declare their innings closed at the start of Saturday "a play, but, contrary t-> expectation", they continued betting until 3 p.m., the inning* then being closed with the total at 382 for six wickets. Ward increased hi* score from 32 to 47, and carried out b» bat. but neither Prebb'e nor Walnwley gave much trouble. Sydenham were left with three hours to bat, and they juit managed to play out time, the ;»*t pair being in when stumps were drawn. Reeae and Kinvig opened the innings to the bowling of Lawrence and Ftrange, but only 18 had been made when the former was given out leg before wicket. Norris, who followed, stayed with Kin rig tintil the total reached 76, when he was bowled by Frebble, -who had brtn put on at "Lawrence's end. Neither Ejyni nor Ashby etaved long, and at 134 Kin'vig was bowled for a freely hit 74. Fowke 5 runa later, and «x wickets were down. As an hour still remained it appeared ac if the Midland jrould win comfortably, but Hunsley and Young, aided by a bit* of luck, made a valuable M»r»d, and the second century was passed before the former was got rid of. McMurray made a dozen at a critical time, and although Joll foiled to «core, Dniry kept hi« wVrcet intact for the last two overs, and enabled h» side to claim a draw. Young had a bit of luck in compiling hw 61 not out, but nevertneles* he batted well. Lawn-DC* was by far the most *uc«*sful of the Midland bowlers tried, and the fielding was not up to the mark.
