ASHBURTON
The Ashburton Borough Council met on Monday evening, when there were present —The Mayor (in the chair), and Cn_. Davis, Alcorn, Andrews. Jones, Clark. Timmins, and Davison. The Mayor reported thai the debit balance at the bank" was £2199 12s sd, and that the sum of £63 12s had been received from all sources since lastmeeting. Correspondent-. waa read as follows .* —From tli* Clerk Ashburton County Council, re payment, of share of traffic bridge n_iinteaance, and from same respecting the payment of £20 due on aecouut of rent for water supply. Received, and amounts ordered to be paid. The Council resolved to hold a special meeting on the 25th hurt., for the purpose of revising the estimates. Cr. Timmins moved—"That the Clerk be reque.-rted to write to the Christchurch City Council, asking that in the event of the Rakaia b?ing selected as the city's power river, that "tire. Borough of Ashburton be allowed the option of joining in ill. scheme." The motion was carried. Accounts amounting to £151 19s 8d were passed for payment. Tlie Council then sat as a Domain Board, and granted the application of the Amateur Cycling and Athletic Club for a close day c_ Easter Monday.
