FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) NAPIER, March 9. At the New Zealandi United Fire Brigades' Conference to-day, the following resolutions were carried:—"That any Brigade being in default, or acting in such a manner as to be derogatory to the welfare or interests of the Association, may be suspended by tlie executive from all benefits; a Brigade s-nispended shall have the power, by giving one month's notice before the annual meeting, of appealing to the delegates against the executive's decision. (2) That invitations to hold the Conference, or Conference and demonstration, shall be handed in at tlie annual meeting; if more than one invitation be received, a vote of the Brigades shall be taken, and decided within two months- , (3) That in tlie event of any fireman being in another district than his own, he be allowed to put in his practices with the Brigade of that place, provided such Brigade is duly registered; tlieso attendances to be recorded on the roll of his own Brigade. The secretary, Mr Robins (Hawera), president, Mr Walter (Greymo_tli), nnd Lieutenant Baker (Gore) were appointed a deputation to wait upon tilie Premier dining his visit to Napier this week, and to a.sk whether the Government would give i-ts support to the Brigades Bill, the principles of which are that tlie of Brigades should ba cast upon local bodies, lire insurance companies, and the Government. The deputation was also instructed to bring under the notice of Mr Seddon the question of obtaining a reduction in the duty on Fire Brigade appliances. Invitations for the next Conference have* been received from Palmereton North and To Aroha. A vote of the Brigades throughout the colony will be taken on the matter during tho next two months.

A torchlight procession was held this evening, which was attended by over 500 firemen, the procession being the largest that has yet been held under the auspices of the Association. Tlie procession marched through the principal streets, which were thronged with people.
