THE VICEROY'S TACT.

The Viceroy, who has throughout done; everything in his power to correct and make up for mistakes and omissions, today received the veterans at the Circuit House, warmly welcomed them, and made a short but excellent speech in reply to a touching, simple message of loyalty which they sent to the Emperor. Last night on the plain between the fort and the Juinma Musjid there was a display of fireworks, which can be best described as " Crystal Palace." The chief interest of the evening was the amazing sight revealed suddenly in the very dark night by the illumination of the huge orowd of natives by magnesium rockets. The whole of the inhabitants of Delhi were gathered—men, women, and children— upon the Maidan and the liouses overlooking it. Fireworks are probably the product of England which most touches the imagination of the natives, and their delight was quite the feature of the evening, and made the display well worth attendance in spite of the practical inipossibilitv of finding carriages afterwards. Probably" half the visitors from the camp walked the whole or nearly the whole way back. The Shan chiefs from Burma were completely- lost in the crowd, and wandered about' all night in the city. They had very prudently left all their jewels behind before setting out for the evening. The weather at Delhi continues to be perfect, against, all anticipation.
