DISTRESS IN AUSTRALIA.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WANGANUI, February 17. In view of the pitiable and dire condiWon of thousands of families in New South Wales and Victoria, and that it will be many months before there can possibly be any improvement, the Wanganui "Herald Supports the suggestion of a correspondent pit New Zealandera should not be deWred by the rebuffs arreafdy given to Madame Melba and Mr Seddon, and possibly the offers of outside assistance made by others, but should start a subscription fund for relief. The correspondent offers five sacks of wheat, and thinks that in view of the bountiful harvest of this colony the matter would be heartily token up worn one end of New Zealand to the other. The Premier is to be communicated with to . forward the suggestion.
