CHRISTCHURCH SHORTHAND AND TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
The bmking-up function in ooanectaon with the Christchuroh Shorthand and Technical School was held in the City Hall last night. The report of the principal, Mise E. E. Digby, concerning the work of the school during the past year, etated that the year had been in every respect one of the most successful in the history of the eohool. The names of pupils on the roll taking commercial subjects—shorthand, typewriting, and bookkeeping— numbered over 200, while the mairdcutatioo, Oml Service, jjad general education classes had also been well attended. Aa the result of the shorthand speed examinations held by the Chrietchurch Shorthand Writers' Asflociation during the past twelve months, pupils from the school had carried off the great majority of the certificates awarded by Sir Isaac Pitman and Sons. At the exominaiion held in June, last, out of the 13 certificates granted, pupils from the school obtained 10, and again at the examination held in August last, the eohool pupile carried off 10 out of the 11 certifloatee granted. The total of the certifi. catee obtained by pupils during the rear 1901-1902. numbered W, as agaSjt b3 last year. There were over 70 examination papers etfll in England awaiting adjudication.
