AMERICAN UNIVERSITY CHEERS.
As the Athletic Council of Cornell University haa decided by a large majority in favour of sending a crew to compete at Henley regatta next year, the bonks of the Thames may once more be expected to resound in 1903, ac they did a few years eince, with that University's " cheer"— "Cornell! I Yell, Yell, Yell! Cornell!" Some consolation may be drawn by those who have no love for ear-eplittmg from the fact that it is not Cornell College which is pending a crew, for the " cheer" of that institution is the excruciatingly elongated cry, "Zipp, SH-s, Bpom, Caw-w, Ca-w-w----nefl! C. C. Tiger-la 1 Zipp Zipp Hurrah! '."■•th© unrecorded inventor of which obviously deserved one of Mr Gilbert's Mikado's styles of punMiment—something with boiling oil or molten lead in it. Compared with either, indeed the "cheer" of the University of Pennsylvania, -which had a crew competing a twelvemonth ago, was modesty and harmony itself, it merely being " Hoo-rah! Hoo-ra/h.! Hoo-rah.! Penn-eyl-va-nd-a!" But there ie a Western University of Pennsylvania that "goes one better" in the cry "Allegheaee! Genack! Genack! Hooray! Wup!"
