— » j The Edncation Board met yesterday. o Present—Messrs C A. C. Hardy (in the chair), J. Rennie, W. McMillan, D. Buddo, C. Opie, M. Dalziel, H. W. Peryman, and T. W. Adams. j The mistress at Heathcote Valley, and n Miss Alorland, of the Hampstead school, o were granted a month's leave of absence owing to illness. • The Buildings Committee reported in de- q tail on various work. ' jj Tho Clerk to the Kaiapoi Borough Conn- $ cil reported that it wa* intended to allow p the school children free use of the swimming bath about to be constructed. The D letter was received, and it was decided to o thank the Council. C In reference to the proposed revision of n regulations .providing for certain repairs, to t< be undertaken by teachers, after further o consideration the" Board was recommended y to forward to all teachers occupying school- g houses a copy of the existing regulations, b which will in future bo strictly enforced, ti the Board having no funds available for c trifling repairs. The Clerk of Works was instructed, where a teacher was about to a: give up possession of a schoolhouae, to ti make provision for an inspection, in order b that tne Board's regulations might be en- b forced. si The Normal School and Technical Com- tl mittee's report stated that the Principal of si the Normal school reported that a "fire «: dismissal" practice had' been carried out, I; showing that in case of emergency the t! school could be emptied in an orderly way. It- was agreed that a similar practice should J be held once during eaoh quarter.. Other matters dealt with in the report were .considered, and the Board roseThe application to have the Amberley school converted into a district High School ha« been considered by the Appointments Committee of the Education Board, so f: the report stated, and the matter was a deferred until the receipt of fur- o theT information from the School Com- m mittee regarding -he probnbility of pupils C from other districts attending. S The School Committee wrote, stating that S 27 children had promised to attend the h Darfield District High School. An t: offer to let the hall at Darn field . was also received, and an i> enquiry made relative to the proposed staff. It was .pointed out that the Ktaff proposed $ would Ibe permanent co long as the average t attendance at the primary department g reached 41. .J Mr T. W. Adams and Mr C. H. A. T. I Opie were requested to visit the school and ii report as to what ie best to be done to i> provide the necessary accommodation, applications to be invited for appointment to li the secondary department in accordance s with the Board's resolution. t The report of the Appointments Commit- J tee on both matters w&q adopted. i The following appointments have been n made by the Education Board:—Kaiapoi, fi Mr H.
