SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was to have been held yesterday, brat, on receiving the news of the death of Mm Westenra, wife of the Chairman, it wae resolved to adjourn. The annual meeting was held at noon. Present—Messrs Dunlop, McMillan, J. Wolfe, G- H. McHaffie, G. Witty, R. H. Rhodes, and J. Gough. On the motion of Mr Dunlop, Mr Westenra was re-elected chairman. The ordinary meeting was then held. A letter was read from the Lincoln Bead Board, re dosing a road, and it was determined that the Council uphold the decision of the ratepayers closing the road. A letter was read from the Town Clerk, Christchurch, asking for the contribution of the Council, £593 7s 2d, to the expenses of the Infectious Diseases Hospital, in order that the Government subsidy could be applied for. The Chairman said that the amount had been placed on the pay-sheet that day. An opinion was read from the solicitor of the Council, stating that the Government had no power to transfer the site of the abattoirs at Hornby to the City Council without the consent of the County Council. Mr Witty did not think that the Council should gfive up tne reserve. He thought they were bound to hold it, and not allow it to be transferred. It was resolved to communicate with the Department on the matter. A letter was read from the Mandeville and Bangiora Road Board, calling attention to a case of tuberculosis coming to Southbrook from the country. The matter,-had been reported to the Health Officer, but he stated that there was no accommodation in the Hospital for the case, and that a tent should be purchased, and a competent nurse engaged, in order to have the case isolated. It was resolved to bring the matter under the notice of the Hospital Board.
