BOROUGH COUNCILS.
ASHBURTON. The Ashburton Borough Council met on Monday evening. Present—The Mayor, and Councillors Alcorn, Davis, Jones, Reid, Davison and Clark. The Mayor reported that the debit balance at the bank was £2090 139 9d, and amounts received from all sources since last meeting £110 12s 6d. The secretary of the General Post Office wrote, acknowledging receipt of the Council's share of the estimated cost of the Post Office clock, and stating that the matter had been referred to the Public Works Department. The Audit Department foTjraixled the Ibalance-sheet for the past year, duly certified. It was decided to grant the patronage of the Council to the County Bands' concert. The Mayor jnoved that the Council bring under the notice of the Minister the present unsatisfactory state of the law respecting the representation of the Borough on the Uliaritable Aid Board, and requests that-the Act be so amended as to do away witth the present anomaly, and that a copy of the resolution be forwarded to the member for the district. The motion waa seconded by Cr- Alcorn, and carried. Several licenses to sell milk and one to sell meat were granted. Accounts amounting to £210 19s were passed for payment.
