A meeting of timber merchant* decided ;on combined action with, the, view of having the Federal tariff on. rough timber fixed at Is 6d, and on dreeeed timber at 3s per 100 super feet, doore 2s each. If was stated that representations were { being made to Mr Barton to secure the i exemption ni white pine and other in-; odorous timbers. The Chairman announced that Mr Seddon had arranged to place an 'expert dirty of 3a per 100 super feet on. ! white pine and kauri baulk timber. I A monster free trade demonstration took ', place in the Town Hall to-night, the Mayor presiding. Mr Reid and other leaders made speeches* and resolutions were adopted, protesting againafc the Federal tariff, i There was a large overflow meeting.
