A sudden heat wave, during which the thermometer touched 95 deg. in the shade in the city, was followed to-day by a tierce, ' cold westerly gale. The wind at its height blew at the rate of 71 miles per hour. The city was enshrouded in clouds of dust. The gale swept part of the colony, being I accompanied in many places by heavy rain, hail, and snow. Considerable damage was j done to crops and property.
