BAND OF HOPE UNION.
I In spite of attractions a record night resulted last evening- in connection with the Band of Hope Union contents. The prizes won in the different events were i presented by the president, Mr J. T. fcimith. They: consisted chiefly of hooka, but included the sum of £8, given in money prizes ior the most successful acI tibn songs. The programme «£. the evening consisted of a repetition of the successful items in the preceding contests. $ At the of the prize-jciving, _\i r ,j, T. South himself was presented -with an illuminated address, prepared by Mr K. Cramr>. in recognition of this services to the Imion. and to the temperance cause generally, during the fifteen years in which he has "held the office of president. The presentation -was made by the vice-pre-sident, Mr T. Cutler, and signed by him and by the secretary, Mr T. M. T?otter. Th« presentation of a gold Maltese cross was then made by Mr Cutler, on behalf of the Union, to Mr P. J. De La.'Cour, as some .recognition of bis services as treasurer during the years 1898-1901. The cross, which was inscribed with the monogram. "C.8.H.U.," was manufactured by Mr T. G. Voyce. .
