THE CITY DESTRUCTOR.
During a discussion on the destructor Gγ. Clarke suggested that A the surveyor should be - instructed to prepare general estimates for the- machinery which- will be used in connection with the destructor, such as a clinker-breaker and apparatus for supplying lepid water e for the proposed public baths. .' ' , Cγ. K. SL Macdonald said that the proposal would impose a large order on the surveyor, as a good -deal of machinery would be required for* the various purposes for which the destructor would- be utilised. Hβ had been to the Wellington destructor several times, and found that the' rubbish, did.not-seem to form hard clinker, .tue local destructor migSt turn out to be far different. He was in favour o? obtaining the other machinery as early as possible, but -thought- they might delay", in purchasing a clinker-breuker. C'r. Gkirlce's suggestion was then adopted. The Works Committee reported as follows;—" With regard .to . tne destructor chimney it IS recommended that colonial fire bricks be tjaed for lining the shaft, instead of the imported bricks, which should be kept in atock for repairs to the furnaces." . The report was adopted. The , city surveyor "reported that Mr Bowen was making good progress with his work on tue destructor, as also are Messrs Meldrum Bros!
