CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

A meeting of the Board of Governors was h*ld yesterday afternoon. Present —Mr T. S. Weston (chairman). Canon Harper, Hon. W. Montgomery. Dr. <*iilton. Messrs C. C. Corfe. T. \V. Adams, C. Lewis, H. J. Beswick. The Chairman said before the business of the meeting was begun jw wished to-refer to the death of Mr G. F. Tendall, one of their lecturers, whose services to the College were recognised, and his brilliant attainments they aH knew. He (the chairman) had had- the pleasure of hearing an address given by 'Mr Tendall. and lie was much struck with the brilliancy of his l&jignage. It was mattes for great regret that he should have been cut. off at so early an age, and in the midst- of his sphereof usefulness. They all felt very deeply the loss the College had sustained He* now moved—"That the Board of Governors, regretting the death of George Frederick Tendall, Mus. Bac, Oxon and Sew Zealand, desires to record its high appreciation t>f the eminent services rendered by hinv as lecturer on music at Canterbury College during a period of ten years; that a copy of the foregoing resolution be sent to the widow and iamUv o< the deceased lecturer."

The resolution was seconded hy Hon. W. Montgomery, and was. carried in silence. It was resolved tliat the matter of arranging for the carrying on of the lectures in music be left to the Chairman.

A letter was read from.the Canterbury Industrial Association, forwarding the. report of the Special Committee on Technical Education, and the recommendation that the Board of Governors should set up an advisory committee on technical educatiou, comprising i-epresentatives from various public bodies. A letter was also read from th* City Council on the Fame subjeot, stating that the Council Mould be glad to be represented on the committee if set up. The Chairman moved—"That the-letter be referred to the Museum and School of Art Committee to consider and report." Mr: Adams seconded the motion, and called attention to the fact that the Board of Education had been omitted from the list of those to be represented on the proposed committee. He thought this was to be regretted, as the Board'of Education liad taken

a great interest in the matter. The motion was put and agreed to. On the motion of the Chairman, extended leave was granted to Messrs W. H. Montgomery and J. L. Scott. The'question of the additions to the laboratories and the matter of obtaining apparatus was considered.

The Chairman said the total cost would be about £390.

It was resolved that the work be carried out as suggested. Mr Adams gave notice of the following motion for next meeting: —-'That a return be obtained of the amount of fees paid in the various subjects at tire affiliated Colleges in other parts of the colony." 'The Board then adjourned.
