SUGGESTED CONTRIBUTIONS FROM CANTERBURY.

Aβ already mentioned* active etepa are being taken in Duoedin and Wellingtonto send some Christmas gifts to the 3?ew Zea- . landers who are still fighting in South Africa, with a view of affording them some slight encouragement in the very trying work in which they are engaged, and ebowing them Mp&,sbey are not forgotten by their fellow colonists. As there was some doubt owing to the difficulties of military transport, ac to tfce possibility of getting parcels delivered to the men, we wrote to Colonel Robin and Colonel Jowsey, asking what, in the light of their experience in South Africa, they thought of the matter. Both the officers named wrote expreseing their warm approval of the movement, and stating that they thought the men would receive any gifts despatched to them if certain precautions in the way of addressing the parcels were taken. These letters are very satisfactory, and if our readers will only send on their dona* turns inlaid of the fund at once we have little doubt of being able to get to "Our Boys , ' at the front a seasonable and kindly, reminder that they are not forgotten. It is evident that if anything is to be done it must be done at once, and we hope that contributions will be sent in quickly. In a very few days it will be necessary to close the list. It is not neces? sary to raise a large fund, and we do not ask fo.r large subscriptions. A list has been opened at "The Press" Office, and we shail gladly welcome shillings and. halfcrowns in aid of the fund, although we shall not refuse larger amounts. Residents in the country may send either postal notes or postage stamps, as they find most convenient. We shall be glad if they will kindly write "Troopers' Gifts" on the outside of the envelope. The following agents for "The Press" are authorised to receive subscriptions ia aid of the fund: — Mr J. Plunkefc. Kaiapjra, Mr J. L. Wilson. Rangjbra, Mr E. R. Good. East Oxford, Mr F. A. Waterman.
