WHAT IS BEING DONE IN WELLINGTON.

We have received the following letter from his Worship the Mayor of Weßingfbn: — Dear Sir, —I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 19th instant, asking for information with regard to our Christmas Comfort Fund for New Zealand troops in South Africa. : A meeting was called in Wellington, wben a number of ladies attended -who decided to make up a few cases for the Sixth and Seventh Contingents. The comforts are intended for the whole of the New Zealand troops, and not for the Wellington men alone. The ladies canvassed the town to some extent, and have received considerable support in money and kind. I find tobacco, cigarettes, and chocolate are the things most frequently offered. In addition, to these, the ladies intend, with the money subscribed, to purchase medical comforte for our sick and wounded in the hospitals. These will consist of milk, potted meats, etc., etc. The Government have been.-ap-proached and have agreed to .take possession of the goods, pack and ship them, and see that they are delivered in South Africa.- .-. . ■■. .■; -.. - . .•/ ': • . •-.. I understand the Mayor of Dunediri has opened a fund in his; town for tfce purpose of sending comforts to the New Zealand troops.
