CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY.
Afc a meeting of the committee of the .Canterbury Children's Aid Society, held in the City Council Chambers, several complaints were mado to the committee of alleged breaches of the by-law relating to child street vendors. After consideration of tlve by-law a deputation was appointed by th.e t committee to ■ wait upon the City Inspector and obtain some information as to the working of the by-law. Reports were received on the question of boarding out' children in unsuitable homes' in the city, and a lengthy discussion took place on fahe question. The following resolution was. passed:—"That this Society,. having repard to the cases that have been reported to it from time to. time, is strongly of opinion that sufficient discrimination v& not always exercised in selecting hornet for boarded-out' children. The Society consider that .every effort should be made to secure for such, children the atmosphere and. surroundings of a true home." lb waa further resolved to ask the attention of the representatives in Parliament to some of the principles embodied, in the State Children's Act of ,fcj U»t'h as it was considered that trie provisions, of this Act .afforded greater protection to children than the New Zealand Act dealing' with l -the same matters. ■ cases were dealt with. During the meeting feeling reference was ■ made*' to the loss the committee would susta-in by the death of Mrs Blake, who had been one of its most ener.getic members 'since the commencement of the Society-, and a resolution -was passed placing on record the Society's appreciation of the deceased lady's efforts. '
