" *In an America Cup trial spin of fifteen miles to windward and back at Newport., Rhode Maud, the Constitution (the yacht selected by the New York Yacht Club to defend the Cup against Sir Th'os. Lipton's challenge with Shamrock II.), proved the winner. The Columbia, winner of the Cup in 1899, was second, and the Independence a bad third. (In a-thirty-mile trial race a few days ago the Columbia b:at the Constitution.)
