H.M.S. JUNO.
The Juno is a second-class cruiser of 2100 tons less displacement than the St, George, and having the following dimensions:--Lengtti, 35Qtt; hreadth, 54ft; draught, 21ft. Although launched at Barrow as far back as 1895, she was not put into commission until lb'ya. The Juno is a twin-screw vessel, and has a reputed maximum speed of 20 knots per hour. She was built at a cost of a quarter of a million of money, and has thefol- ] owing armament:—Five 6in quick-firing guns, six 4.7 in guns, nine 12-pounders, and eleven lighter quick-firing guns, her deck being armoured to a depth of 2iin. Her complement comprises about 500 omcers and men. The Juno is under the command of Captain H. P. Routh, who has associated with him the following officers :—Commander A. S. Lefane, Lieutenants W. D. Church, A. A. Ellison, C. B. Hampshire, F. R. Wood, P. H. Waterer, Lieutenant of Royal Marines, J. Baker, Chaplain and Naval instructor E. T. Fyffe, Staff-Surgeon C. Strickland, Paymaster W. L. Davy, Fleet Kngineer W. W. White, Sub-Lieutenant A. (i. 3luller, Surgeon W. H. Pope, Assistant Paymaster B. F. Brown, Engineers. P. F«rgußon, Assistant Engineer A. M»- Attwood. The yesoel also carries five midshipmen. Captain Booth was out here many years ago m,H.M.S. Challenger, and Commander Xefone had a previous Australian experience in H.M.S. Cilracoa, about 1893, when ac was a lieutenant, whilst Surgeon Strickland was attached to one of the ships on the Australian station from 1899 to 1892. •
H.M.S. ROYAL ARTHUR. This is the flagship, and is under the command of Rear-Admiral Jjewis A. Beaumont, the officers of hit* staff being as follows ; —Secretary, Hamlet H. Share ; .FlagLieutenant, Bernard JC Pratt-Barlow; As-sistant-Paymaster, William Kilpatrick; Clerk, Ernest H. Dyer. This is the admiral's itaff. The regular staff of the Royal Arthur consists of Cuptain, Thomas P. Walker; Commander, Walter Lumsden ; Navigating Commander, Lawrence E. Power; Lieutenants, Francis G. Brooker. Pafesfield Oliver, George, H. de Chance, W. C. Castle, U. J. Orr ; Staff-Engineer, William G. Mogg ; J) loet fturgeon, H. L. Crocker; Staff-Pay-master. James Maxwell; Chaplain, Rev. F. A.
