THE DRIVE TO TE KORAHA.
As soon as" the ceremonies at Victoria square ha 4 been completed, the Royal party returned to thejr carriages, and left by way of Victoria street, Salisbury street, and Carlton Mi« road, for j.ur frhodes's house, Te Koraha, preceded by a guard of honour. The road on each side was lined with crowds of people eager to catch a glimpse of the Royal couple. The reception was on all sides genuinely enthusiastic, and almost every cottage or villa, shop or house of business on the road, had hung out some sign of welcome, or hoisted some flag. , The Duke and Duchess appeared highly pleased with the welcome accorded everywhere along the line, and many acknowledgements of the people's tribute were made as the carriage rolled along. Windows were lined with faces—happy, healthy faces—and it must have struck our Royal visitors that in all the crowd there was not a sign of that keen poverty which even on gayest days makes itself apparent in the cities of the Old Land.
On reaching Te Koraha their Royal Highnesses lunched with Lord and Lady Ranfurl • Rud after inspecting the residence and grounds, with which the greatest pleasure was expressed, they, witnessed ithe wire' jumping competition, taking a marked.interest in the events.
