William the Third threw out a strong chaJenge at the distance, and got j within ft neck of Volodyovski, but the favourite answered very gamely, and won by threequartera of a length, with four lengths between aecond and third. Time. 2min 40 4-sth sec. The American jockey, L. Reiff, rode Volodyoveki. The attendance at Epsom constituted a record. [Volodyovski'a time is the fastest yet recorded in tho history of the Derby. The previous rocord, 2nwn 42sec, was jointly held by Persimmon and Diamond Jubilee, who won the race for His Majesty in 1896 and 1900.1
